Qualification Information Profiles (QIPs)

As part of the Qualifications Information Review, we consulted on new ways of delivering information about qualifications to providers. One of the key outcomes of this is the creation of QIPs for selected qualifications.

QIPs

QIPs provide objective, comparable information about qualifications which providers can use to inform decisions about the admission of students. They include a range of information such as size, grading, assessment, structure, and content.

There are a number of benefits to digital QIPs, including the following:

  • Information in the QIPs guides is more factual and consistently presented, and there is a clear annual process for updates, so the information is more reliable. Qualifications in the previous qualifications guides were migrated and verified when transferred to QIP format. Awarding organisations and/or regulatory bodies are responsible for providing accurate, up-to-date content in the digital QIPs. Only regulated qualifications will be included.
  • The updated QIPs guides provide you with extended qualification coverage. The streamlined process focuses resources on the production of accurate, up-to-date QIPs for the greatest possible number of qualifications, providing you with more of the information you may need. HEPs will be encouraged each year to tell us if they would like qualifications added to have a QIP, in a similar way to how they would request qualifications are added to the new Tariff.
  • By digitising the qualification information, we will improve efficiency and accuracy. It is easier to update online qualification information, and the single, consistent QIP format will improve your capability to do a side by side comparison of qualifications.

You will also find QIPs for a number of international qualifications, global qualifications (such as international A levels), and apprenticeships.

Education Information Profiles (EIPs)

The digital EIPs aim to provide objective information on programmes taken as replacement qualifications for GCSEs, A levels, SCQF Level 5 qualifications, and Scottish Highers, to support providers in making informed decisions about the admission of UK students.

UCAS will consider submissions for an EIP for any assessed programme followed by UK students, which is not externally accredited to any of the regulatory frameworks in place in England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland, for programmes used in place of regulated GCSE, A level, SCQF Level 5, and Scottish Highers.
