Qualification guides and resources

UCAS' resources

We’ve produced some key resources to help you find out more about qualifications.

Guides to support admissions staff

  • Quick links to regulatory information – use the Register of Regulated Qualifications to search for all regulated qualifications in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
  • The Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) – this framework replaced the National Qualifications Framework (NQF), and awards credits for units and qualifications.
  • The Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) – this framework covers Ofqual-regulated general and vocational qualifications in England, and vocational qualifications in Northern Ireland. • Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) – this framework unites mainstream Scottish qualifications into a single, unified framework.
  • Curriculum for Excellence (CfE) – this curriculum is used by all schools in Scotland. It aims to make learning more relevant to the modern world, and gives young people the skills, knowledge, and understanding they need to succeed in learning, life, and work.

In state schools, it’s called the Level 1/Level 2 Certificate, so it’s not confused with the GCSE. Cambridge International has produced to explain the distinction between the iGCSE and GCSE.
  • Cambridge Pre-U – this is a post-16 qualification that’s been taught in the UK since September 2008. Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) has produced the following guides to give you more information:
  • GCE mathematics aggregation rules – the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) has produced documents to explain the rules that govern the generation of awards in the GCE mathematics suite, for both reformed and
