We’ve produced some key resources to help you find out more about qualifications.
Qualification Information Profiles (QIPs) provide objective, comparable information about qualifications whilst Education Information Profiles (EIPs) provide objective, comparable information about programmes. HEPs can use these to inform their admissions decisions.

Guides to support admissions staff
- Quick links to regulatory information – use the Register of Regulated Qualifications to search for all regulated qualifications in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
- The Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) – this framework replaced the National Qualifications Framework (NQF), and awards credits for units and qualifications.
- The Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) – this framework covers Ofqual-regulated general and vocational qualifications in England, and vocational qualifications in Northern Ireland. It compares qualifications, and seeks to improve consistency in how awarding organisations describe them. Ofqual has produced a blog and other resources to explain the changes in detail.
- Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) – this framework unites mainstream Scottish qualifications into a single, unified framework.
- Curriculum for Excellence (CfE) – this curriculum is used by all schools in Scotland. It aims to make learning more relevant to the modern world, and gives young people the skills, knowledge, and understanding they need to succeed in learning, life, and work.
- International General Certificate of Secondary Education (iGCSE) – the iGCSE is an alternative to GCSEs that’s taken by 14 – 16 year olds across the world. In state schools, it’s called the Level 1/Level 2 Certificate, so it’s not confused with the GCSE. Cambridge International has produced
